How to properly clean the liner of a hotel duvet?

Proper cleaning of a hotel duvet liner requires a balanced approach to cleaning performance and maintaining the down's fluffiness. Improper handling can easily lead to clumping, odor, and reduced warmth. Mastering the correct cleaning method for a hotel duvet liner can extend its lifespan.

1. Home Cleaning (Small Washable Duvet Liners Only)

Step 1: Pretreatment (Critical!)
For spot cleaning: Apply a neutral detergent (such as a down-specific detergent) to oil or blood stains. Let it sit for 10 minutes and gently scrub without rubbing.
After removing the duvet cover: Wash the duvet liner separately, avoiding mixing it with heavier fabrics.
Step 2: Machine Wash Settings
Washing Machine Selection: 10kg or larger capacity front-loading washing machine (puller washing machines can easily damage down).
Cleaning Agent: Specific down cleaning liquid (do not use bleach or softeners, as they can damage the down's oils). Parameter Settings:
Water Temperature: 30°C cold water (high temperatures will cause down to become brittle)
Mode: "Gentle" or "Down Wash"
Spin Speed: ≤600 rpm
Wash Time: ≤40 minutes
Step 3: Spin and Dry
Spin: Spin once at low speed (≤400 rpm) for ≤3 minutes.
Drying:
Tumble dry at low temperature until semi-dry (below 50°C, approximately 1 hour).
Remove and place three tennis balls/wool balls in the dryer, and continue drying for 40 minutes (pat down to fluff).
Dry thoroughly: Lay flat in a cool, well-ventilated area to air dry for 48 hours, patting the down quilt every hour to restore its fluff.

2. Hotel Industrial Cleaning (Professional Linen Room Standards)

Equipment and Chemicals

Project Requirements
Industrial Washing Machine Capacity ≥ 50kg, with down program (forward and reverse rotation)
Dryer Large tumble dryer, temperature control accuracy ±2°C
Cleaning Agent Down-specific neutral enzyme preparation (pH 6-7), with added disinfectant (quaternary ammonium salt, non-chlorine bleach)

Operational Procedures
Pre-inspection and Sorting: Inspect the quilt for damage and sort by contamination level (blood stains should be treated with enzymes in advance). Main wash: 35°C water temperature, add detergent (5g/L water) and disinfectant (mixed according to the instructions).
Wash alternately in forward and reverse directions (20 minutes forward, 5 minutes reverse), total time ≤ 45 minutes.
Rinse: Rinse three times in warm water at 30°C, adding acetic acid (1ml/L) the final time to neutralize any residual alkaline residue.
Spin: Increase speed to 800 rpm for 8 minutes.
Drying:
Stage 1: 60°C hot air drying for 1 hour (to remove moisture).
Stage 2: 45°C low temperature drying with a tumbling cycle for 2 hours (use a built-in tennis ball to prevent clumping).
Standard: Moisture content ≤ 10% (moisture-free feel, down should be dispersed and free of lumps).

3. General Taboos and Precautions

Prohibited Activities:
Do not dry clean (solvents dissolve the natural oils of down).
Do not expose to direct sunlight (UV rays damage the fibers, causing yellowing and brittleness).
Do not twist or press (damage the down structure).
Storage Requirements:
After completely drying, place in a breathable non-woven bag and store in a dry, dark place to prevent mold and moth damage.
Avoid vacuum compression (permanently damages the loft).
Maintenance Tips:
Air dry down every three months (outside of direct sunlight) and pat gently to restore elasticity.
Use down dry cleaning detergent to remove minor stains; avoid washing the entire down area.
